Josephat Nanok elected Council of Governors chairman

Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok is the new Council of Governors chairman.

Mr Nanok takes over from his Meru counterpart Peter Munya, whose term has expired.

Mr Munya was elected in 2015, with Taita-Taveta's John Mruttu picked as his deputy. Mr Mruttu has been re-elected to that position.

Mr Nanok, elected unanimously during a meeting of governors in Nairobi, promised to push forward the devolution agenda and protect the gains made so far.

"While we’ve made some progress, we are going to push hard and aggressively move things forward. I will do all that is within my power to push the devolution agenda forward," he said.

He hailed the work of his predecessors as exemplary.
