A section of Jubilee MCAs have threatened to impeach Governor Evans Kidero over claims he bribed Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi to get a favourable ruling in an election petition.

The Nairobi governor is Wednesday expected to address the county assembly members, who will resume sittings after the Christmas break.

On Monday, Roysambu MCA Peter Warutere said they would revive a motion to impeach the governor.

“We will be playing our oversight role if the judge is found guilty. The giver of the bribe will not be spared,” said Mr Warutere.

However, the Jubilee leadership in the assembly has distanced itself from the impeachment motion, with Minority Chief Whip Hashim Kamau saying they were currently focusing on strengthening the Jubilee Party.

“If there is an impeachment motion, it’s not from the party but a private member motion since we have not sat as a party to discuss it,” he said.

Majority Chief Whip David Mberia said the motion was a plan to blackmail the governor.

“How can they even point out a corrupt person. They just want money by threatening the governor,” he said.

Viwandani MCA Samwel Nyaberi Nyangwara, who is also a member of the Speaker’s panel, said the motion had not been brought to the committee of business and warned against using the “backdoor to bring it tomorrow”.
