Justice Isaac Lenaola has ordered that all cars impounded during the matatu strike earlier this month be released.

The judge ordered the immediate release of the 117 number plates held by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles after owners present logbooks and identification documents.

He said the motor vehicles shall be released to the owners by the Nairobi County Government on production of logbooks together with their number plates as well as the payment of impounding and towing charges amounting to Sh9,000.

The owner are also expected to pay storage charges after negotiations with the county.
A report on the progress on the matter is to be given on April 4.
