Judge to hear athlete’s case for separation

A separation case between Lucy Kabuu, the world’s fastest marathon runner, and her husband cum coach will proceed for divorce after they failed to reach a settlement.
Her husband and the father of their only child, Mr Jeremiah Maina, yesterday informed the court that his attempt to consult Ms Kabuu’s lawyer had been futile.
The couple had hoped to part ways without going through a court case, after they agreed that their five-year marriage had collapsed.
“We contacted Ms Kabuu and her lawyers but we have realised they are no longer willing to have the matter settled as soon as possible,” Mr Maina’s lawyer, Mr John Githui, told the court. “So it is our wish that the case goes to full hearing.”
TURN OF EVENTS
Following the turn of events, Justice Janet Mulwa directed that the couple’s Sh7.2 million rental income be deposited in court until the civil suit is determined.
The hearing begins on June 26. Ms Kabuu and Mr Maina jointly own rental properties in Nyahururu and Nairobi, besides farms in Nakuru, Nyandarua and Laikipia.
They were admired as marathon’s great couple, but shocked the world when they announced they were separating due to irreconcilable differences. Ms Kabuu sought to restrain her husband from visiting her, saying he had turned violent.
She has won four half marathon races. Last year, she clocked her personal best time of 1:06:09 at Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
