Justice for Liz: Suspects to be charged

Suspects in the gang-rape and violent attack on a Busia pupil four months ago will be charged with a holding charge of causing grievous harm to the teenager, the Director of Public Prosecutions has said.

Keriako Tobiko has at the same time constituted a team from the Sexual and Gender -Based Violence section to review the file.

He said this after receiving a report from the Busia office. “The new team will review the file, re-investigate the case, re-interview witnesses, and prepare a comprehensive report,” he said in a statement.

Mr Tobiko directed that the team, to be constituted by the CID director include senior officers, preferably female, from the head office.

“They should also be well equipped and knowledgable on matters of sexual and gender-based violence,” he said.

He said a psychologist with the necessary experience and expertise in traumatised sex victims should examine Liz to give an opinion on whether it is normal for a victim to report a violent sexual attack a long time after it occurs.
