The Kenya Airports Authority has asked the Employment and Labour Relations Court to dismiss a case filed by a JKIA security guard who was sacked for allegedly mistreating and humiliating Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Through lawyer Lorraine Oyombe, KAA said after investigations, Ms Daizy Cherogony’s conduct was found to be in breach of the corporation’s human resource manual and a disciplinary action was recommended for her negligence and recklessness on handling of the CS.

The lawyer said Ms Cherogony ignored the CS Matiang’i when he arrived at the terminal building in the evening of April 6 and presented himself at the glass door.

Dr Matiang’i was delayed for 24 minutes outside the terminal where he almost missed his flight to Kisumu, Ms Oyombe indicated.

“The claimant denied ever seeing the CS at the glass door and that if she had seen him, being a VIP, she would have facilitated him as per the security procedures,” the lawyer said.

She admitted that Ms Cherogony was suspended for denying the CS priority service and embarrassing him by requiring him to line up for security check up.

Ms Cherogony is expected to file a response to KAA’s argument before November 15 when the matter will be mentioned and directions for the hearing set.
