Father to reward top girl with car

Young Sandra Boyani is about to reap the benefits of her hard work.
Her father, Mr Charles Onsongo Mochama, promised to buy her a car following her good performance in last year’s KCSE exams.
The former Alliance Girls High School student scored 84 points. She wants to study medicine at the University of Nairobi.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
“She has saved me more than Sh600,000, which I had set aside for a parallel course. Now, I will use it to buy her a car. And yes, I had promised her a car if she performed well,” said Mr Mochama, an agronomist at the World Bank.
Sandra is a poster-girl of simplicity and humility.
When she visited the Nation on Wednesday, nothing betrayed the sheer intelligence, hard work and determination of the girl.
“I have been prayerful, hard-working and determined to excel. This was my secret,” she said.
The top performer is the second born in a family of four. A staunch Seventh Day Adventist church member, she said her parents had been supportive.
She beat thousands of her peers to emerge one of the top girls in the country.
“I have always believed in hard work since I was young,” she said.
Sandra also credited her parents for the success.
“They have provided me with a conducive environment and have motivated me to achieve,” she added.
“I want to study a course that can make a difference in my life. And this is medicine. I consider myself people-oriented and I have the passion to assist others,” she said.
Sandra began her schooling at Set Hill Academy, where she scored 390 marks out of a possible 500 marks.
She praised her teachers at Alliance High for the support they gave her to ensure she passed her examinations.
She plays netball and reads novels in her leisure time.
Mr Mochama said constant motivation, determination and hard work had made his daughter an achiever.
“My daughter has maintained a positive attitude to studies throughout her life and that was a plus,” he said.
The proud father said he had worked hard to ensure his children study in a conducive environment. He has a well-equipped library and computers for ICT lessons at home.
