Kenyans thronged Uhuru Park and other recreational facilities in Nairobi to celebrate Christmas.

Uhuru Park was a beehive of activities with thousands of people flocking the grounds, which has one of the best picnic sites and several recreational facilities.

The families kept themselves busy enjoying boat and camel rides. Go-kart operators had a booming business with the children delighting themselves with the mobile machine.

At neighbouring Lunar Park, which is next to Railway Club, children spent the day playing in bouncing castles and swings.

“I have never seen such a big crowd of people during Christmas and business has been good since morning,” a kiosk owner who only identified as Ali told Nation at Railway Club where people visiting Uhuru and Lunar Parks flocked for foods and other refreshments.

City Hall Way remained crowded the whole day as people going to and from Uhuru Park used the route from Kencom bus stage.

Others flocked Kenyatta International Convention Centre where different companies pitched tent to sell different products especially toys and other goodies that children relish during festive season.

Some travellers were stranded at several matatu termini as public vehicles to upcountry were scarce.

At Tearoom stage where Nyeri-bound matatus converge, there was a big crowd of travellers and some said they had spent the night there.

“I have been waiting since yesterday ( Christmas Eve) to get means but the few matatus available were charging as much as Sh1,000,” Jane Wakarima who was travelling to Karatina with her two children said.

Normally matatus charge Sh250 from Nairobi to Karatina.
