Roads to venue of Ticad will be sealed off from midnight

What you need to know:

  • Parliament and Taifa roads, City Hall Way and Wabera, Mama Ngina, and Standard streets, will be closed until 6pm on Monday.
  • Areas around the Hilton and Intercontinental hotels will be out of bounds for the public.
  • The KenCom bus stage, which mostly serves matatus plying the Community, Yaya Centre and Hurlingham routes, will not be in use.

All roads leading directly to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will be closed from Wednesday midnight, with only accredited people and vehicles allowed in.

Workers at KICC, the main venue for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad), and the media will access the building through gate B from Harambee Avenue junction with Uhuru Highway.

Nairobi County traffic boss Leonard Katana on Wednesday said motorists had been issued with stickers to access certain parts of the city.

The KenCom bus stage, which mostly serves matatus plying the Community, Yaya Centre and Hurlingham routes, will not be in use.

Entry into the CBD from Nyayo Stadium will be restricted to Moi Avenue via Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway or Kenyatta Avenue via the GPO roundabout.

“Commuters intending to use matatus at KenCom should go to Moi Avenue lane near Studio Inn,” the brief indicated.

About 10,000 delegates, including more than 35 heads of state, are expected to attend.
