Kihalangwa to face House vetting panel

  • State House explained that unlike the other candidates, Maj-Gen Kihalangwa, who is already in the public service, had been nominated by the President.

Immigration boss Gordon Kihalangwa is to be vetted for appointment as a principal secretary with the Public Service Commission playing no role.
Major-General Kihalangwa will straight away face the parliamentary vetting team after the PSC concluded interviews for principal secretaries yesterday.

President Kenyatta nominated him as Interior PS last month, as Dr Monica Juma, who has been occupying that position, was moved to State House as the Secretary to the Cabinet.

The Director of Immigration was not among the 110 applicants listed for the principal secretary jobs.

State House explained that unlike the other candidates, Maj-Gen Kihalangwa, who is already in the public service, had been nominated by the President.

“What the President did was a nomination and not an appointment, after which Maj-Gen Kihalangwa will face the vetting committee as provided for in the law,” said Mr Munyori Buku, a communication director at State House.

Some of the PSs to be appointed after parliamentary approval will be deployed to new state departments to be created.

Others are expected to replace those to be shown the door for poor performance, including failure to implement presidential directives, which has obstructed the implementation of Jubilee’s agenda.
