More than a thousand officers to be deployed for Owuor's Kisumu rally

At least 1,200 police officers will be deployed to Kisumu to provide security at a New Year prayer rally to be presided over by Prophet David Edward Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness ministry.

The preacher, who attracts hundreds of worshippers whenever he holds the prayers is said to have already booked four hotels exclusively for his visitors.

The prayers will begin on December 28 to January 1.

Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata says police have been mobilised to ensure security is enhanced.

“We expect more 100,000 visitors in the town for the New Year prayer rally and we are sourcing 1,200 police to ensure that the population is safe,” said Mr Elungata.

He called upon government institutions including Kenya Power and those dealing with water and sanitation to ensure that the amenities are provided to cater for the expected multitude.

“We must prevent outbreak of diseases from lack of water and such other occurrences,” said the commissioner during a national service delivery committee meeting of civil servants. Some 100 heads of various departments at the county were in attendance.
