Lamu Governor Issa Timamy was on Wednesday evening held for questioning by police shortly after recording a statement with the County criminal investigations office.

“He arrived at around 2pm at Manda Airstrip aboard a Safari Link plane and went straight to the local CID offices to record the statement before crossing to Mokowe by boat to an unknown destination,” said a police source on condition of anonymity.

A senior police officer privy to the report told Nation.co.ke that Mr Timamy was transferred to Malindi and later Mombasa.

“They told him that he will be taken to Mokowe Police Station to record a further statement but a pick-up which transported him never stopped and instead drove speedily towards Lamu-Malindi Road,” said Mr Timamy’s relative on condition of anonymity.

A police officer who declined to be quoted added that Mr Timamy, the only United Democratic Front (UDF) governor, was moved to Mombasa for further interrogation by detectives from the directorate of criminal investigations and special crime prevention unit.
