Thirteen Lang’ata High School students arraigned on Tuesday after a dormitory was torched have been detained at the Kamiti juvenile remand for five days to allow police to complete investigations.

Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari said the charges against the students were “very serious owing to the recent trend in other schools.”

Ms Gitari said the court would determine whether students aged above 18 years would be charged in a different court once investigations are concluded.

The students were charged after a fire burnt a dormitory at their school last weekend. At least 15 students suffered minor injuries while attempting to salvage their belongings.
