Lawyer favourite for CBK chairman’s post

Veteran lawyer Mohammed Nyaoga was nominated in the first ever competitive process to appoint a CBK board chairman.

If he gets the greenlight from Parliament, he will become the first and the most powerful substantive chairman of the board.

A senior partner of Mohammed Muigai Advocates, which he co-runs with Attorney-General Githu Muigai, emerged tops to become favourite from the submitted names.

He will replace the acting chairman and State House economic adviser, Dr Benard Wagacha, who missed out on both the governor’s and chairman’s jobs he had applied for.

Others interviewed for the position of chairman include Consolidated Bank of Kenya chairman, Dr Benson Ateng’ and Mr Nicholas Korir, a former boss at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

Dr Ateng’ is now on secondment to the Comesa Monetary Institute and CBK’s Deposit Protection Fund Director Rose Detho.
