Lawyers petition to prosecute men stripping women

Lawyers are seeking permission from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute men who strip women in public.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chairman Eric Mutua said the ongoing brutality that has been reported in the media should not be allowed since it is a violation of one’s rights.
Mr Mutua also called on the National Police Service to form a special unit to patrol areas where the crimes are likely to happen.
“LSK wants to be granted special leave by the DPP to prosecute any person arrested in connection with stripping, defiling or insulting women in public,” said the LSK chairman.
Mr Mutua said that there are criminal elements within the male population that have taken to defiling, assaulting and insulting women by stripping them naked.
He said that video clips of women being stripped naked have gone viral on Facebook and Twitter handles, which must be contained.
“These kinds of actions are not only illegal but immoral and should never be tolerated or condoned in a civilised society,” said Mr Mutua.
He said the public has a civil duty to arrest any person who commits or is likely to commit an offence.
