Learn from Jesus’ suffering, Uhuru urges Kenyans

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto on Thursday evening urged Kenyans to use Easter holidays to pray for national unity and learn from Jesus’ trial and suffering.

In goodwill messages, the two leaders separately told Kenyans Easter holidays should be a time to reflect on the challenges facing the country and keep fighting to circumvent them.

“All people of all faiths will identify with the challenges, setbacks, adversities and difficulties we all encounter from time to time as we strive to reach for our dreams,” the President said in a statement.

“Even in the larger context of nation building, Easter teaches us that despite immense odds in accomplishing unity, prosperity and stability, our determination and sacrifice will be vindicated in the triumph of hope, faith and love,” he said.

Easter which starts on Friday is celebrated by Christians around the world in remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection three days later, as retold in the Biblical Books of John, Mathew and Luke.

Mr Ruto said the suffering of Jesus Christ depicted in these stories should inspire Kenyans to love one another, in spite of divergent backgrounds.

“As we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us reflect on God's good deeds, His love for our country and pray for peace and harmony at all times.

“Let us abide by His teachings, be guided by His wisdom and grace and seek His intervention in our lives. May God's blessings be upon us always,” Mr Ruto added.
