Top Nairobi County officials have been suspended after being charged with corruption.

County secretary Lilian Ndegwa and chief finance officer Jimmy Kiamba are among the officials charged with defrauding City Hall of millions of shillings in shady procurement deals.

Other officials charged are Ms Regina Rotich, Mr Stephen Osiro and Ms Nancy Kiruri.

They have all denied the charges and are out on bond pending the hearing of their cases.

However, Governor Evans Kidero, who announced that the officials had been suspended when he chaired a county executive meeting on Monday, said he had replaced the five awaiting the outcome of the cases.

Mr Gregory Mwakanogo, the county finance secretary, will act as the county secretary, while head of county revenue Luke Gatimu will be the acting chief finance officer.

Mr Maurice Okere was appointed acting head of treasury, a position previously held by Mr Osiro. Mr James Ngunjiri will act as the head of county treasury, budget and expenditure, replacing Ms Kiruri.

Ms Rotich was Mr Kiamba’s secretary.
