Live within your means, Waiguru tells county governments

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has asked county governments to prioritise essential projects and work within their budgets.

She said sometimes funds are late in getting to counties because of inadequate revenue collection, making the government unable to disburse more funds.

The operations of Bomet, Migori and Nyamira county assemblies have been hit by lack of funds.

At the Nyamira County Assembly, Speaker Joash Nyamoko said suppliers, workers as well as the ward representatives have not been paid their dues.

County executive committees (CEC) also want the government to harmonise their job groups to avoid payment disparities with other county staff. The CS said there are plans to allow CECs to work temporarily with national government agencies to hone their skills.
