Transparency International-Kenya has backed the order for the immediate prosecution of 13 individuals and three firms on criminal charges related to the Anglo Leasing scandal issued by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

The rights group said Kenyans have for a decade waited for the prosecution and punishment of individuals linked to the Sh56 billion scandal.

Anglo Leasing continues to symbolise the longstanding, poor commitment that successive governments have demonstrated towards the fight against corruption in Kenya.

"Punishment of those responsible for the scandal and recovery of the proceeds from this scam is critical in establishing Kenya as serious in the fight against corruption and to boost the confidence of the public in our legal system," said Transparency International executive director Samuel Kimeu.

EACC chairman Mumo Matemu told the Nation he was confident “the commission had finally unlocked the Anglo Leasing puzzle” twelve years after its details were tabled in Parliament by then Ntonyiri MP Maoka Maore.
