One killed, four injured in grenade attack in Wajir

One person was killed and four others injured in Wajir town, Wajir County following an explosion at around 7pm Wednesday.

At least two explosives were believed to have been buried under garbage at the town centre but it was only one which exploded, killing a man and injuring others who were passing nearby.

The ministry of Interior through its official twitter handled confirmed the death and injuries.

The police were however quick to arrive at the scene and secured the area. They shot in the air to disperse the public from the busy market place.

The officers also managed to detonate an explosive which they had recovered at the scene. A number of people were arrested for questioning.

The explosion comes in the wake of frequent terror related attacks in the country, the latest being West Gate Mall in Nairobi, most of which have been claimed by the Al-Shabaab militants who said they are part of retaliation to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) involvement in the security matters within Somalia.

Meanwhile, a child died after a stray bullet went through her head during an operation to flash out a suspected thief in Korogocho slum, Nairobi.

Police offices were reported to have visited the home of a suspected thief in the slum but opened fire killing him instantly.

Members of the public then protested saying the suspect had been shot despite having surrendered and wanted the police to be held accountable.

The officers in response shot in the air and in the process of dispersing the crowd shot the eight year old girl who died on the spot. A boy aged 12 was also shot on the thigh and later rushed to the hospital by relatives.
