A Member of Parliament is involved in a protracted court battle with a woman claiming school fees for their child.

Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai Iringo was sued by the woman who is also demanding the upkeep of the Standard Three pupil. She also opposed the law maker’s suggestion that the child be transferred to a less expensive school.

A family court gave a warrant of arrest for the MP for defying an order obliging him to pay school fees for the child in a high-end school in Nairobi.

Lawyer Jane Nyaboke for the mother told the court that the MP had made it a habit to defy court orders “without any retribution. He even defies the consent order that he himself has agreed to”.

However in a quick rejoinder, the legislator said that between September 2014 and November 2014, he paid a total of Sh300,000 and a further sum of Sh36,000 for the child’s fees.

He accused the mother and lawyer of refusing to account for the money since the lawmaker believed that the amounts he was paying for the minor at the school were exorbitant.

FALSE STORY

But the woman accused the MP of compounding the matter saying it was a scheme to ensure that only his “false” story is heard by the court.

“The defendant has not paid the amount entered into in the consent order of October 23. Instead he has been contesting orders in other courts without informing us,” she said.

However she acknowledged receipt of Sh300,000 but is claiming that those amounts do not even come close to the grant of Sh325,000 let alone another sum of Sh100,000 given as costs.

“All this was to be paid on or before November 5. Not only has the legislator defied the court order, he has also managed to get reprieve by lying to this court and having the warrant of arrest suspended,” she said.

The case resumes on January 5.
