Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti has asked the High Court to dismiss the rape charges against him on the grounds that evidence was interfered with.

On Friday, the MP claimed that evidence was tampered with by lawyer Harun Ndubi, who is defending the victim.

He told Judge Weldon Korir that Mr Ndubi instructed doctors at Nairobi Women’s Hospital to cut the clothes of the victim into two pieces.

Through his lawyer, John Khaminwa, the MP said he had not been given all the evidence he required to prepare his defence.

The court has directed that all the parties, including the Director of Public Prosecutions and the MP, to file written submissions covering all the details of the evidence they want to be presented.

The case is due for further directions on August 10.
