MPs form team to probe gambling

MPs have formed a committee to investigate the phenomenal growth in gambling in the country.

The 11-member team is expected to table a report in 14 days on its findings and recommendations on how to regulate the industry.

Majority Leader Aden Duale and Deputy Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo will co-chair the committee.

Mr Midiwo said regulating the industry is crucial as the number of betting companies is rising and people can now easily gamble via their mobile phones.

In a notice of motion to the House, Mr Midiwo noted that the industry is vulnerable to tax evasion and money laundering.

Other members of the committee are Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Thomas Mwadeghu (Wundanyi), Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri), Benjamin Langat (Ainamoi) and Kanini Kega (Kieni).
