Magerer Langat withdraws case against Nairobi MCAs

Former ODM Executive Director Magerer Langat has withdrawn the assault case he had lodged against five Nairobi Members of County Assembly.

The ward reps, including County Assembly Majority Leader Elias Otieno, had been accused of assaulting Mr Langat during the party’s meeting in 2015.

CHARGES

The other MCAs were Daniel Oria Okumu, George Ochola, Catherine Apiyo Okoth, Alvin Olando Palapala and head of security at Orange House, the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, Benard Kadundo.

They had also been charged with creating disturbance by shouting at Mr Langat.

They had denied both charges.

At the meeting attended by party leader Raila Odinga, the former director was roughed up and ejected after being accused of being a traitor.

SH300,000

But on Tuesday, Mr Langat told a Kibera court that he had withdrawn the case after being paid Sh300,000.

"I received a total of Sh300,000 from the accused but there was no threats of coercion. We had successful discussions and I agreed we settle the case out of court, " he said.

The compensation, he said, had taken care of his medical expenses.

"I have out of my own volition decided to forgive them, " he said.
