A committee will be formed to oversee the management of the two mosques in Majengo, Mombasa, which security agencies raided, leading to the arrest of some radical youths.

County Commissioner Nelson Marwa announced that the Musa and Sakina mosques will remain crime scenes until further notice.

At the same time, the national and county governments will work with elected leaders to ensure the two mosques, believed to have been built in the 50s, are managed properly.

Mr Marwa said the government will not allow radical youths he linked to Al-Shabaab to manage the mosques.

“We have asked the Mombasa governor, senator, MPs and women representative to liaise with sheikhs and the chief kadhi to help us form a committee that will take charge of the Musa and Sakina mosques since the government will not allow Al-Shabaab-linked hooligans to cause violence,” he said.

Mr Marwa said the government is fully aware of the respect the mosques ought to be accorded, but it will not sit back whenever they are misused by individuals with evil motives.

He said security agencies will also flush out radical youths, who have taken over some mosques in Kisauni, among other areas.
