A man was Wednesday arrested for being in possession of 30 kilogrammes of ivory at Nairobi’s Global Cinema roundabout.

Kenya Wildlife Service security officers arrested the suspect as they were walking on the street with his two colleagues after a tip-off from members of the public.

The two accomplices escaped, leaving behind the suspect who was carrying the worked ivory stashed in a suitcase.

The suspect was remanded at Langata police station and is set to appear in court Thursday morning.

He faces three counts of being in possession of illegal government trophy, dealing with ivory without permit and failing to make a report to authorities for being in possession of government trophy.

The suspect and his accomplices are believed to have been looking for market for the ivory.
