Man linked to massacre arrested

A second suspect linked to last December massacres which left 64 people dead was Tuesday arrested.

Police identified the man as Mohamed Ibrahim Bashir, 40. They said he is a resident of Mandera Town.

Police said they had reasons to believe that Bashir was an associate of Salim Abubakar Kitonga, the main suspect in the quarry and bus attacks that left the nation in shock and anger.

Kitonga was arrested in Mandera last week and has since appeared in court.

Confirming the arrest, Mandera County Police Commander Job Boronjo said several other suspects were assisting police with investigations. He said police were closing in on other main suspects.

“As of now, we cannot tell if Bashir is anybody’s associate. We are working on it and I believe we will know by tomorrow,” he said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the physically challenged Bashir is from the Nyanza region.

“I will give you more information tomorrow because we are still attempting to establish the truth about this man,” Mr Boronjo told this reporter.
