Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has asked the National Government to carry out fresh mapping of the boundary between Kakamega and Nandi counties to minimise disputes.

Mr Oparanya said disputes related to land boundaries at the county border ended up sparking communal violence.

He said the county government would help resettle 24 families living in tents at Khubasali in Kakamega North sub-county.

Mr Oparanya visited the families yesterday accompanied by his deputy, Mr Philip Kutima, and County Commissioner Arthur Osiya.

They gave the families blankets and food, among other items.

The families fled their homes a week ago after youths raided Khubasali Village and set houses and sugarcane farms on fire.

The youths, from Nandi, are said to have been angered by the release of a man suspected to have killed a villager over land.

Mr Oparanya supported calls by Senator Boni Khalwale to have the Sub-County Commissioner Isiah Tonui transferred for allegedly taking sides in the conflict.
