A police driver on Thursday told the High Court that no Masjid Musa prisoners escaped from the vehicle that ferried them from the mosque to a police station.

Mr Abdi Adan told Mr Justice Edward Muriithi that he had not seen any prisoner escape from the Land Rover as he took them to Makupa Police Station.

He was testifying in a case in which relatives of Mr Hemed Salim Hemed, who disappeared shortly after his arrest by police, want him produced in court.

INSPECTION OF LAND ROVER

On cross-examination by lawyer Yusuf Abubakar for the petitioner’s brother, Mr Masoud Salim Hemed and activist Okiya Omtatah, the officer told Justice Muriithi that only the officers who sat with those arrested at the back of the vehicle could tell what happened.

“In all the three trips I made, I only heard noises from officers and prisoners.

“They sounded like orders. Officers would have told me to stop the vehicle if they escaped,” the witness said.

The case has been adjourned to April 17, when the court will inspect the Land Rover vehicle used to ferry Mr Hemed.
