A requiem Mass will be held at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium Thursday for six people from the county killed in Saturday’s Mandera terrorist attack.

The county government will help transport bodies of the six to their rural homes for burial and meet other funeral expenses, according to deputy governor Philip Kutima.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on Monday accompanied ODM leader Raila Odinga to Chiromo Funeral Parlour in Nairobi to condole with relatives of the victims.

SOMBRE MOOD

Tuesday, a sombre mood engulfed Makunga and Isongo locations in Mumias sub-county, the home of three of the teachers killed in the attack.

Relatives and friends gathered at the homes of the bereaved families in Mwitawa, Etemesi and Eshing’oto villages.
Ms Faucia Omari said she spoke with her husband, Mr Clapertone Nyangule, 27, last Friday when he called to notify her that he would be travelling home. 

Ms Selpha Mukopi said her son, Mr Patrick Mukopi, 23, called the same day saying he would be home for the festive season.

Another victim, Ms Janet Shitemi, 32, taught at Joy Start Academy in Mandera.
