Mau Mau veterans were denied a chance to talk during Madaraka Day celebrations in Nyeri County.

They were not amused by the regional government for taking charge of the celebrations, with a lot of attention being given to county issues. In the past, the veterans played a major role during the annual celebrations.

Kenya Freedom History Foundation Treasurer Danson Kionge said the regional government had turned the celebrations into a county affair yet they were a historic event.
“The county does not realise the significance of the occasion” he said.

He said the national government was taking too long to fulfil its promise to provide financial assistance to the Mau Mau veterans. However, they pledged their support for the Jubilee government.

They asked the Opposition to stop politicising every effort the government made in ensuring service delivery to Kenyans.

County Commissioner Michael ole Tialal accused some Kenyans of promoting insecurity in the country by protecting criminals.

He said people with relatives who engaged in crime were reluctant to give information on their whereabouts.
