Kenya Medical Training College skips intake row meeting

Kenya Medical Training College failed to send representatives to a meeting called to solve a row over admission of students to the institution.

The National Assembly's Committee on Health was also not present at the Wednesday meeting attended by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS).

KMTC and the placement body are embroiled in an intake battle, with both institutions claiming right to admit students.

KUCCPS selected 2,285 students to join medical training colleges.

The college, however, maintains that it will not admit any student through the placement service.

Students who were admitted by KUCCPS have been turned away from KMTC campuses.

On Wednesday, CEO John Muraguri maintained that the colleges had the sole mandate to select students and that students admitted by KMTC will not benefit from the Higher Educations Loans Board funds.

He added that the medical college management can only admit self-sponsored students.

The director of the Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority, Dr Kipkurui Langat, also supported the placement agency.
