The child was taken to the Migori District Hospital where doctors described her condition as stable

An aborted seven month-old baby survived a two-hour ordeal in a pit latrine into which she had been dumped by the mother.

She resolutely clung to life before her cries reached the ears of neighbours who came to her rescue.

Her mother who is a teacher in Migori Town was said to have procured the abortion at the weekend. “We heard the cries of a baby and upon checking, found out that the freshly aborted child was in the latrine,” said a neighbour Mrs Pamela Atieno.

The child was taken to the Migori District Hospital where doctors described her condition as stable. The woman was later arrested by police while attempting to escape.
