The missing Embu Speaker Julius Kariuki Mate has been found alive.

Good Samaritans found him abandoned along a road in Limuru area early morning and took him to Gigiri police station and was later taken to Aga Khan hospital.

According to the Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno, Mr Mate was taken to the Gigiri Police Station by a lorry driver who picked him up on his way to Nairobi.

The lorry driver could not understand what he was saying and decided to take him to the police station.

The details of what he has said about his abduction will remain a secret for the time being as police continue with investigations.

“We are sure he was not taken away by animals but human beings. He was dropped somewhere near St Paul’s University and he had tried to stop 40 vehicles by the time a crew riding a cabbage truck stopped to assist him.”

He was ice cold when he was brought to hospital and had to undergo certain procedures, Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti said.
Mr Mate appeared stable but shed tears after he reunited with his wife and two children at the hospital.

Embu County Assembly members, who were at the hospital, said they hoped that the abduction had nothing to do with the impeachment of Governor Martin Wambora but vowed not to be cowed if at all it had been meant to scare them.

Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Swaleh said the biggest question people of Embu were asking is why the speaker had been abducted.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that a saloon car picked the county Speaker after he walked out of the Utalii hotel on Monday.

Meawhile, Mr Mate’s wife Mrs Caroline Wangari, has withdrawn case against the Director of Criminal Investigations and Inspector General David Kimaiyo after her husband was found.

A Pangani Police Station-based detective was charged Thursday with his abduction and confinement was released on a Sh100,000 bond by a court on Thursday.
