A senior traffic officer was seriously injured in Naivasha on Friday morning when a motorist he had flagged down hit him and sped off.

The motorist, identified as Dennis Orodi, was, however, intercepted by other officers at Gilgil and arrested.

Police found three suspects of Somali origin in the car.

They did not have any identification documents and could speak neither English nor Kiswahili, a senior police officer said.

The car, a grey Toyota Fielder with registration number KBQ 702Q, had been recorded by a speed camera at around 7:30am, but when Inspector Thomas Oseko, the Naivasha deputy base commander, flagged down the driver, he hit him and sped off.

The vehicle's details were circulated through the control room and officers in Gilgil intercepted it.

The officer was admitted to Naivasha District Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Detectives were interrogating the suspects to establish where they were headed.
