Mt Kenya University retains representation in Olympic team

Kenya’s Mount Kenya University has retained Sub-Saharan representation on International Olympic Committee's reviewers for the next one year.

It is among 100 universities around the world that have been selected for the advanced Olympic research grant programme’s assessment.

The institution is represented in the reviewers committee by Prof Mwangi Wanderi who is the director, quality assurance, linkages and partnerships.

This is the second year the institution is represented in the committee.

The reviewers are normally involved in research in various aspects of sports such as socio- cultural development through sports, governance and sports among others.

However, the list is dominated by universities in developed countries such as USA, Britain, and Germany.

The advanced Olympic research grant programme was launched in 2013.

“We thank you for your valuable support and contribution to ensure the academic quality of our programme,” said a statement from the IOC Olympic Studies Centre while releasing the list.

Other universities involved are; Quadriga University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Université de Lausanne (Switzerland), University of St Mark and St John (Great Britain), University of Alabama (United States of America) and University of Royal Roads (Canada).

There is also Swiss Federal Institute of Sports Magglingen (Switzerland) and University of Texas at Austin (United States of America), Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France) and Radboud University (Netherlands) among others.
