Rape case medic Muchiri Mwangi ‘had no licence’

A doctor mentioned in rape allegations against Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti Irea was on Monday charged with operating a medical clinic without a permit from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).

Dr Muchiri Mwangi of Fig Tree Medical Centre in Ngara, Nairobi, also lacks a valid licence to run a pharmacy from the Pharmacist and Poisons Board, documents presented in court said.

The charge sheet states that on March 27, Dr Muchiri was found at the clinic engaging in private medical practice in a place not authorised by the MPDB.

The court heard that between January 1 and March 25 this year, Dr Mwangi practiced as a medical doctor without a licence.

The accused’s name was mentioned in rape allegations facing Mr Irea after a woman who accuses the MP of sexual assault, claimed Dr Muchiri administered a HIV/Aids test without her consent.

On Monday, an attendant in his clinic, John Kinyua, was also charged with operating a pharmacy without a licence. The two were released on Sh100,000 bond each. The case will be heard on July 2.
