Controversial “doctor” James Mugo Ndichu, alias Mugo wa Wairimu, is out of prison after he raised a Sh5 million bond.

Mr Ndichu secured his freedom by depositing a title deed in court.

Mr Ndichu, who also faces 11 separate charges, was released on a bond of Sh5 million with an alternative of a cash bail of Sh1 million on October 5.

He failed to deposit the cash bail and had been in prison custody.

“I have verified the title deed presented by the accused herein. It has been certified by the relevant government department as genuine,” Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Ghandani said.

She added that prosecutors, led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Jacinta Nyamosi and the investigating officer, verified and confirmed the title deed is genuine.

She ordered prison authorities to release the suspect pending the hearing and determination of the case on November 23.

The court overruled a request by prosecutors to deny the suspect bond until his case is determined, stating that the application had “no merit”.

Mr Ndichu allegedly raped a woman, named ABC to protect her identity, at his Prestige Health Care clinic in Githurai 44 on November 1 last year, prosecutors say.

He was arrested on September 10 at the Gitungo Hotel in Limuru, Kiambu County, after Citizen TV aired a video showing a sedated woman being sexually assaulted in a hospital examination bed.

He is facing charges of rape, administering a sedative and 10 counts of operating unregistered clinics.
