One hundred and fifteen magistrates have been promoted.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga said on Thursday that out of that number, 19 were promoted from senior principal magistrates to chief magistrates.

Seventeen principal magistrate became senior principal magistrates.

Dr Mutunga said 20 senior resident magistrates were elevated to principal magistrates while 59 resident magistrates became senior resident.

Meanwhile, Dr Mutunga on Friday called on Kenyans to shun tribal politics.

He said this at the launch of the translated version of the Bible from Greek to Kamba. The translation was by renowned religious scholar John Mbiti.

Kenya Literature Bureau’s managing director Eve Obara said Prof Mbiti was the first African to publish with them in 1954.

“This is a deeper translation of concepts with all the contents that any language carries like culture, history, customs, religion, art, science and health,” Dr Mutunga added.

The chief justice said Prof Mbiti singularly and without controversy made use of what seems to be a dividing tool to plead for unity.

Bibles were translated by foreigners or teams led by them in the nearly 770 African languages, mainly from Colonial European languages.

Rarely were previous translations sourced from Greek or Hebrew, the original languages of the Bible. Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang were present.
