The newly appointed National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) Chairman Mr John Mututho has put on notice those who do not follow regulations contained in the Alcohol Drinks Control Act.

The Act is commonly referred to as the Mututho law after the chairman, who crafted the stringent regulations that limited drinking hours to the chagrin of alcohol-imbibing Kenyans.

Speaking on Thursday as he visited his new office, the Nacada chairman said he will revive and enforce the Mututho law that seemed to have collapsed after he was voted out of parliament early this year.

The former Naivasha MP disclosed that the law will be effected as soon as possible.

He warned that bars that have been operating during the day or violating any of the laws will be closed down.

“Thanks to the people who contributed to my downfall by voting me out or those who opposed the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act for they will now have to abide to the law,” said Mr Mututho.

He further cautioned policemen and chiefs who have been receiving bribes from illicit brewers to consider themselves jobless as he starts his tenure with the anti-drug body.

“Please consider yourself jobless if you continue taking money from the illicit brews,” said Mr Mututho.

He also encouraged Kenyans to follow the law to by abiding to the set drinking time.

Mr Mututho was on Wednesday appointed as the Nacada chairman by President Uhuru Kenyatta to replace Dr Frank Njenga whose five-year term elapsed.
