Superintendent of Police Nelson Omwenga Nyakundi’s misconduct was revealed Wednesday when the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) announced the dismissal of seven officers from the service.

NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi said Mr Nyakundi would be subjected to disciplinary action for using certificates that do not belong to him to get recruited.

The officer's documents showed he was in Standard Eight when he was only 10 years old.

The vetting results of 31 officers had been withheld for further investigations.

Mr Kavuludi said the seven engaged in corruption, violated human rights and submitted fake documents, among them bank statements.

Among the officers dismissed are Mr Lawrence Martin Kariuki, Mr William Meto Kiprotich and Mr Joseph Kipkemoi Kemeli, all with the rank of senior superintendent of police.
Other officers removed are Mr Jackson Muriuki Magambo, Mr Samuel Olentutu Olenkiti and Mr Samuel Bore Kipwese, all with the rank of superintendent of police.

Also dismissed was Assistant Superintendent of Police Peter Kemboi Chemos.

Mr Nyakundi had initially been cleared, but members of the public and the media alerted the commission that he had used fake certificates.
