Three Nairobi County askaris suspected to be behind the serial killings of hawkers in the city have been charged with murder.

Mr Alfred Maranya, alias Ogesi, Mr Julius Omanyo Ochieng and Mr Marigo Protus, alias Sarara, were charged with the murder of Mr Irungu Kamau.

They denied the charge.

Justice Luka Kimaru issued a warrant of arrest against another suspect in the case, a Mr Ambani Akasi, alias Wasiwasi, who has since gone underground.

The four, the court heard, jointly murdered Mr Kamau at Nyam Hotel, on Duruma Road, in Nairobi on September 16, 2015.

The incident, according to the prosecution, occurred at about 7.30pm.

An application for bail for the suspects will be heard on January 20.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko had offered a Sh100,000 bounty for information on the killings.

He had also threatened to resign had authorities failed to take action against rogue city county askaris.
