University of Nairobi ranked the best in East Africa

  • Makerere University in Uganda was ranked 11 in Africa and 1074 in the world.
  • The university’s digital repository was ranked position five in Africa and Google Scholar position 966.
  • Times Higher Education 2016 has also ranked University of Nairobi at position eight out of the 30 top universities in Africa.

The University of Nairobi has been named the best institution in Kenya and East Africa, in the latest ranking by Webometrics.

UoN also took position eight out of 100 universities that were ranked in Africa and position 728 globally.

Makerere University in Uganda was ranked 11 in Africa and 1074 in the world, with University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, both of South Africa taking position one and two respectively in Africa.

DIGITAL REPOSITORY

Various parameters were used to rank universities with University of Nairobi’s presence being ranked at 59, impact at number 546, and excellence taking position 1520 in the world.

The university’s digital repository was ranked position five in Africa and Google Scholar position 966.

Times Higher Education 2016 has also ranked University of Nairobi at position eight out of the 30 top universities in Africa.

UoN vice-chancellor Peter Mbithi said the ranking confirms the position of the university as the leading centre of excellence in the East African region.
