Nasa, Jubilee MPs in fisticuff on live TV

Fisticuff broke out a Nairobi hotel after National Super Alliance (Nasa) and Jubilee MPs clashed over tea and repeat presidential election.

The fight, beamed live on national TV, was fomented by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen’s joke that did not go down well with the Nasa leaders, led by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch.

In a peace plea, Mr Murkomen had advised Kenyans not fight because of politicians, saying while the leaders appear at loggerheads in public, they are friends in private.

They take tea together all the time the war of words notwithstanding, he said.

“After this press conference, I’m going to pay the (tea) bills of Nasa MPs who left here a few moments ago,” he said.

The Nasa team had just retreated to the hotel after addressing the press, castigating IEBC Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba and condemning postponement of the repeat election in four counties in Nyanza.

Unknown to him, the Nasa leaders were watching his live press conference inside the hotel.

Livid, they came for him.

They started by disrupting Mr Murkomen’s press conference, a push and shove ensued before the fight broke out.
