In the television category, NTV’s Mercy Juma Okande and Adram Mulama bagged the gender the reporting award while Edmond Nyabola and Stephen Mwei won sports reporting award.

NMG Editor–in–Chief Tom Mshindi congratulated the winners, saying: “It is the professional work  by these journalists that ensures the Nation Media Group platforms stand out and guarantee our readers, viewers and listeners superior content all the time.”

This happened as the Media Council of Kenya joined journalists across the world in marking World Press Freedom Day.

The day is celebrated on May 3 each year and journalists who have excelled in reporting on health, corruption, and development, ICT and telecommunications, and environment are rewarded.

During the gala, Chief Justice Willy Mutunga called on journalists not to become PR agents.

“I have seen the media evolve to the robust and assertive force it is today. The joys and tribulations of your trade are best known to you as men and women of the Fourth Estate,” said Dr Mutunga.
