'Nation’ journalists scoop business excellence awards

Three Nation Media Group journalists are the winners of the 2016 Citi Journalistic Excellence Award.

Ms Lilian Ochieng beat 25 other applicants to emerge top with her article New plan hands KQ crucial lifeline that was published in the Daily Nation on September 29, 2015.

In the second place was Allan Olingo of The East African with his article Trade on East African bourses dips as currency losses bite that was published in the paper on November 21, 2015.

Abiud Ochieng of the Daily Nation was ranked third with his article Bank charges suit could open payout floodgates that was published on February 24, 2015.

The three received trophies from Citi Europe, Middle East and Africa head of corporate and investment banking, Manuel Falco on Thursday at the Citi Kenya offices.

The Citi is an international journalists seminar; a special programme sponsored by Citi and administered by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Ms Ochieng will attend a 10-day business and financial seminar at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York in June.

Other journalists who have attended the study tour include George Omondi of The Standard in 2013 and George Ngige from the Business Daily last year.

For more than 30 years, the programme has served to improve the quality of business journalism in the developing world by exposing leading local journalists to the issues and people that drive the global economy.
