Nation journalist, Eric Wainana has been named the winner of this year’s Norbert Zongo Investigative Journalism.

Mr Wainaina scooped the award for his investigative story on Kihiu Mwiri Land Buying Company of Thika in Kiambu, which has for years been rocked in leadership wrangles that has seen eight directors hacked to death in the row and four others disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

The story highlighted genesis of the wrangles where rival management committee officials had denied members a chance to secure title deeds for their land.

After the story was highlighted in the Daily Nation, President Uhuru Kenyatta intervened and ordered the Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Ministry to start processing tittle deeds for members.

And he personally went there to issue the titles to members.

The prize with monetary value of 1,000 US Dollars, is organised by Festival of Freedom of Expression and the Press (FILEP) and it is awarded to the best investigative journalists in Africa.
