Ndegwa Muhoro advises leaders against hate speech

The Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro has said politicians propagating hateful messages will be prosecuted.
Speaking at Malindi Marine Park after holding a security meeting ahead of the August elections, he said detectives will collaborate with National Cohesion and Integration Commission officers in monitoring statements at rallies or other public gatherings to deter incendiary remarks.
"We will work with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to deter hate speech," he said.
To execute this, he said they have procured video and audio devices that will be used to record public statements.
He urged the public to shun politicians practising divisive politics.
On June last year, several leaders were charged with hate speech but later released.
They were Senator Johnson Muthama (Machakos), MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Kilifi Woman representative Aisha Jumwa and her Busia counterpart Florence Mutua.
