Nic Hailey named new British High Commissioner to Kenya

Mr Nic Hailey has been appointed the new British high commissioner to Kenya.

A statement from the British High Commission in Nairobi said the appointment was announced by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Monday.

Mr Hailey will succeed the current high commissioner, Dr Christian Turner, in December 2015.

Dr Turner is to remain in the post until December, “after which he will be transferring to another UK Diplomatic Service appointment.”

Mr Hailey is currently the FCO director for Africa, a position he has held since 2013.

“Prior to this he held postings in Kabul, Washington, Paris and Berlin. He will be joined in Nairobi by his wife and two daughters,” the statement said.

Mr Hailey said he looks forward to his tour of duty in Kenya.

“I am delighted to have been appointed as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya. I look forward to arriving in Kenya as our historic partnership reaches a new level, based on shared interests, trust and mutual respect,” he said.
