A Nigerian arrested on Monday has emitted five more drug pellets, and police have asked for permission to detain him longer.

The suspect is being held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and had emitted 66 pellets by Wednesday afternoon. Head of investigations Joseph Ngisa said there were indications more drugs would be recovered before the man is charged in court.

Detectives however moved to court on Wednesday and pleaded to continue detaining the suspect before charging him as required by law.

“The man is still emitting drugs. We shall charge him once we have recovered all the dugs he had swallowed. We have asked the court to grant extra time,” said Mr Ngisa.

The man was arrested at around 2 pm on Monday, minutes after he disembarked from a Kenya Airways flight from Dubai. The pellets contained either heroin or cocaine. But the Government Chemist will have to conduct tests to determine the contents.

He was preparing to take a connection flight to Abidjan in Cote de Ivoire before officers took him for questioning.

The police boss estimated the drugs had a street value of over Sh2 million.
